Vienna, Austria | Artist Portraits

I first stumbled across Sonal’s work on Instagram. If there has ever been anyone’s work I want to materialize into a real life place so I can step into it and exist, it’s Sonal’s paintings. She is a modern day Claude Monet of sorts. Her work is dreamy, colorful, and floral. I could swear that you can smell the perfume of her flowers in her art.
She herself is as pleasant and cheerful and colorful as her work. I spent an hour with her in her studio and her studio is so photogenic. I could have stayed there much longer discovering the various pieces of furniture she’s painted, the accessories she’s designed, the canvas’ she’s created from her imagination, and the drawings from school she’s made. She has more creativity in a strand of hair in her head than I could ever have summoned in my entire life. I would love to spend a day in her head. She must dream in color and solve problems in her head with oil and acrylic paint.
The day I went to her studio she was working on massive pieces which she had been commissioned for and had a stack of even more commissions that she had to work on. This artist was busy! And I was so grateful that she spared some time for me to come in and pick her brain and photograph her while she was in her element. She turned on some music, the specific genre which changes depending on the day and what she’s working on, and just let me photograph away. These are the colorful results from her session!
